The SUV sales in April 2025 saw familiar names dominate the sales charts, though some long-standing performers witnessed year-on-year drops. Hyundai Creta maintained its grip at the top, dispatching 17,016 units last month and registering a 10 per cent increase over April 2024 to finish ahead of Mahindra Scorpio and Tata Nexon.
M&M’s Scorpio which has been steadily gaining ground due to its dual-format offering Scorpio Classic and Scorpio N posted 15,534 units in April with a five per cent rise as midsize SUVs locked in the top two positions. The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza faced a minor slip, down one per cent to 16,971 units. It remained one of the most sought-after sub-4-metre SUVs and finished second in its highly competitive segment. The Fronx, Maruti’s compact crossover, remained consistent, selling 14,345 units – almost unchanged from April 2024 and both these models help the brand post impressive SUV tally every month alongside the Grand Vitara.
the Tata Punch, which used to be a regular feature in the top 5, experienced the sharpest fall among the bunch. The volume sales for the micro SUV dropped 35 per cent year-on-year, down to 12,496 units compared to 19,158 during the corresponding month in 2024.
The Thar lifestyle off-road SUV, on the other hand, surged ahead with a massive 74 per cent jump, reaching 10,703 units. The availability of the Roxx has certainly helped in increasing its sales numbers big time in recent months. Hyundai’s Venue dropped by 13 per cent, selling 7,953 units in April as against 9,120 units.
The next-gen Venue is currently under development for debut later this year. Another big gainer was Mahindra’s XUV 3XO as its sales skyrocketed 89 per cent year-on-year, hitting 7,568 units. Rounding off the list, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara took the tenth spot. Its April figure stood at 7,154 units – a six per cent drop from last year.
