Nissan Kait Name Finalised For Upcoming Duster-Based Creta Rival?
The upcoming Nissan mid-size SUV, likely dubbed Kait, will be based on the Renault Duster; India launch expected in 2026
Nissan is currently surviving in India with a single product, the Magnite. The Japanese carmaker plans to launch three new models in FY2026, including an SUV which will be positioned in the highly popular mid-size SUV segment. The upcoming Nissan SUV will be based on the Renault Duster, rivalling the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate and Skoda Kushaq amongst others.
While the details about the Nissan mid-size SUV are scarce at the moment, the latest media reports suggest that it will be dubbed ‘Kait’. However, it is important to note that this nameplate is being used for the compact SUV’s launch in the Brazilian market, and there are no confirmations that this name will be carried forward to the India-spec model or not.
The model coming to India will be based on the localised CMF-B platform, which will be shared with the Renault Duster as well as its 7-seater sibling, Boreal. The teaser shared by the company previously highlighted the design language of the mid-size SUV with elements like connected LED DRLs upfront, strong hood lines, two thin chrome strips running across the width and a muscular front bumper, along with flared wheel arches.
It carries a distinctive exterior styling as compared to the Duster, and we expect a similar differentiation for the interior layout as well. As per some media reports, Nissan’s Creta rival SUV could have more features as compared to the Duster, with additions like multiple drive modes, 360-degree parking camera, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, 10.1-inch infotainment system, digital instrument cluster and more. The upcoming Nissan SUV, along with the Renault Duster and their 7-seater derivatives, will be manufactured at Renault-Nissan’s Chennai-based manufacturing facility. While the powertrain details of the upcoming Nissan SUV are under wraps, the India-spec model will likely be powered by the 1.3-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine, putting out 156 bhp and 254 Nm of peak torque.
It will be available with both manual and automatic gearbox options. In addition to this, the 140 bhp 1.6-litre petrol strong hybrid option is also under consideration for the Indian market.
